The Mary Rose

There is a feeling of departure in this jigsaw, I see it every morning I open my eyes.. whatever the weather.. I get prepared to leave. Leave my life behind me, catch the first boat to anywhere..and go!. I would leave no address If I could I would change my facial characteristics, forge my passport and id's ....and travel..till death takes me to his wings..Bought online from the Bodleian Library Shop in Oxford, UK, a jigsaw of 1000 pieces

Ads jigsaw 1950

Pair of puzzles dealing with British ads of the '50s. How times change in comparison to its equivalent of the "30's. The products are more or less the same but the way they are presented shows a type of new wealth, an improvement. 1000 piece puzzle bought from Past Times, UK through mail order in 1995

Posted by Hello

Ads jigsaw 1930

Pair of puzzles, this one shows British ads of the '30s. An 1000 piece jigsaw showing a way of life forever lost, the greedy faces of children when trying to reach box of cookies, gentleman's relish for the weary sailor..a life of the past.. finished in 1995, purchased from the Past times shop, UK

Το αγόρασα από το διαδίκτυο Posted by Hello

Through the eyes of...puzzles

I started making jigsaw puzzles when I was doing my postgraduate studies in the UK, back in the '80s. Just before the exam period I noticed my friend J. toilling over a (huge for my eyes) 1000 pieces jigsaw whose main colour was yellow (a painting of Jean-Francois Millet). In the apartment we shared we had a spare table where she spread her jigsaw pieces for everyone to see, marvel and perhaps contribute. The 3 figures were completed before the exam period, the remaining pieces looked at everyone with a naughty smile.."eventually you'll come around to us"!
All this yellow was paining my eyes, disturbing my dreams, stressing my being. I was drawn to it, I moved closer only to be repelled ...each piece screamed "don't you dare, touch us". Mixed feelings of attraction to the new and repulsion to the colour.. The first foe won.
One day I had no class I sat in front of the puzzle, said a prayer, and searched for the first piece...
Two hours afterwards, I had successfully put 10 pieces at their place. My friend came and I confessed of my serious crime of prying into her hobbies. Penitent I waited for the verdict..and she laughted..
A sweet beginning to the world of jigsaws.
